A Life Long Friend
Had to write this composition on 1 fave person in your life. After 2 hours it was between Jen, Jeffrey, a nephew, or one of my girl cousins. Finally came up with Sierra. so here is the narrative.
A Life Long Friend
By: Emily Chugg
I have a friend, but she is not just any old friend, she is a life long friend. This special person I am talking about is my friend Sierra. But Sierra and I are more than just friends, we are first cousins. We like to be called “twins” since we are the same in almost every possible way. The only thing different is that we look nothing alike. Sierra has strawberry blonde hair, hazel eyes, and she is 2 inches taller than me. But we have the same likes such as singing, dancing, playing an instrument, and acting. Yes, I have quiet the musical family.
Sierra and I have always enjoyed each other’s company. We practically grew up together on a huge farm. Sierra has been in my life for as long as I can remember. We were together through thick and thin, joy and sadness. Sierra is like a 3rd sister to me, I can see why some people think we really are sisters. Sierra stayed with me when we were little and would go home on weekends because her parents or older brothers would go to work or school. So it would be like having slumber parties every night.
But those nightly slumber parties did not last. Soon, that day came, the first day of school. But school was not forever, Sierra and I still had time to hang out and play on the weekends. Until something even bigger happened, Sierra’s little sister was born. We loved her baby sister, but as she grew older, it became a challenge to have private time to ourselves. Soon, we found out that we planned ahead; we could have private time to do more grown up things.
The best adventure Sierra and I had was when we went to King’s Island Amusement Park. My brother Alex had to work that day so I was able to invite Sierra. I called her up that afternoon and she came over to spend the night so we could get an early start the next morning. All that night we picked out our outfits we would wear to the park and the rides we would try out. We even made friendship bracelets, but they never got finished. I tried to get Sierra to learn a dance number with me because the park sometimes hold live talent shows, but she was afraid to do it.
The next morning we were on the road by 7:30 am. It was a long drive to Cincinnati, Ohio, and we did not eat breakfast beforehand, so we ate at the first McDonalds we could find. I ordered my favorite sausage gravy and biscuits while Sierra ordered her favorite hot cakes. We then got back on the road and when we saw the King’s Island Eifel Tower and Drop Zone ride, we started to get that exciting feeling. Before we entered King’s Island we stopped to get some gas and use the restrooms. Sierra and I were so excited to go on that we almost went bananas!
Once we got to the parking lot, we were ready to jump out of the car. There must have been a few hundred cars in the parking lot. We jumped of the car and started walking to the opening gates. We got our photos taken together then rode a small roller coaster, then, we went to the Scooby Doo Haunted House in Hanna- Barbara Land. I wanted to go on the Tomb Raider Ride, but Sierra wanted to go on the Beast. If you did not already know, the Beast is the longest wooden roller coaster in the United States. But Sierra would not take “no” for an answer so we made a deal, if she went on the Tomb Raider with me, I would go on the Beast with her.
We got strapped into our seats and the Tomb Raider began to take off! We started to swing in all different directions and we then went upside down about to fall into a boiling pool of hot, steaming molten magma. Everyone else started to scream their lungs out! However, Sierra and I did not get that much of a thrill. I was a little disappointed that the Tomb Raider was not as thrilling as I thought it would be, but I soon found out I was about to get the thrill of my life on the Beast. Since Sierra had ridden the Tomb Raider with me, I had to ride the Beast with her. I slowly walked in the direction to the monstrous ride, but it felt like I was walking to my doom!!
I hoped and prayed I would be too short for the ride however; I was the perfect size for it. Mom stayed on a bench while Sierra, dad, and I settled into the ride’s car. Dad set behind Sierra and me to make sure we were safe. We slowly went up the main hill, and my dad kept on telling us to smile for the camera when we go down. Then all of a sudden we heard a loud squeak and came to a stop, the ride had broken down. We were at the top of the longest wooden roller coaster in the United States and over 75 feet in the air. Everyone started to freak out, but Sierra helped keep me calm. So many questions whirled inside my head. Would I live? How would I get off? Would the ride start? All the passengers could do was wait, until suddenly WHOOOOP!! The ride went straight down without notice.
We then got off and I was happy to feel my feet on the ground again. Sierra and I rode more rides that day such as the Viking Ship, the Racer Roller coaster, the Shake, Rattle, and Roll, and a ride Sierra and I personally like to call “The Squisher” because Sierra got squished like a pancake on it because of all the pressure of gravity pushing against her. But of all the rides we rode that day, we agreed that the “Adventure Express” was our absolute favorite. The “Adventure Express” was a twisting roller coaster that went super fast! We liked that ride because we felt like we were in an Indiana Jones movie. We even got our picture taken with Scooby Doo. When we got back to Kentucky it was nearly 11:30pm and we took Sierra home.
You see, Sierra helps me get through things. Sierra was the one who gave the courage to ride that monster ride I thought I would never stand in line for. Sierra was the one who promised to stay with me through all those rides scary or not. Sierra was the one who comforted me when I was scared to death on the top of that hill Sierra is the one special person who I chose to write about. I have loved Sierra from the day we first met when we were infants in the hospital and I always will love her. She is my double twin, my forever cousin, and my life long friend.

“The City of Ember”
If you have not read this remarkable book, then READ IT!!! Here is a short paragragh about the book and movie.
“The City of Ember”
<!–
–>Lights shine in the city of Ember—but at the city limits the light ends, and darkness takes over. Out there in the Unknown Regions, the darkness goes on forever in all directions. Ember—so its people believe—is the only light in the dark world.
And now the lights of the city are beginning to fail.
Is there a way to save the people of Ember? No one knows. But Lina Mayfleet has found a puzzling document, and Doon Harrow has made discoveries down in the Pipeworks. With these clues, they start their search.
“…Contains a satisfying mystery, a breathtaking escape over rooftops in darkness, a harrowing journey in the unknown, and cryptic messages for readers to decipher… The cliffhanger ending will leave readers clamoring for the next installment.”
“The City of Ember” movie just came out this past Friday October the 10th. But I love the book so far. This would be a great family movie for those who like mysteries, excitment, and cliffhagers. Farms
As a Kentucky girl you know there are a lot of farms were I come from. My parents both grew up in the country, but sadly, I don’t. So thats why my parent are like my second home. In summer I would go to Granny and Pa’s to stay for a few nights almost every week and work on the farm planting crops or feeding cows. But I would go to my Nana’s and Aunt Darlene’s when my parents had an early day of work. I would go and call for the horses next door (Bill and Chocolate) and I would feed them some baby carrots and an apple every one and a while. Then at 11AM, Nana, Aunt Darlene, and I would watch the Price is Right with Bob Barker and sometimes Jepordy if we wanted. Usally Alex would be there to, but he’s in the Phillippines now. Sorry Alex. But in Winter I would go to Grannty and Pa’s to help Pa strip tabacco and try to win the lottery. But we never got anything more than a dollar. And at Nana’s and Aunt Darlene’s. We would watch the snow come down and make the best potato soup with my corn bread. Yummmmy!!! Sometimes my cousin Sierra and I would sneak down the stairs to the basment and plauy teacher on the old desk. So why live in Las Vegas when you got Kentucky farms instead???
Happy Fathers Day!!
I just wanted to say Happy Fathers Day to my dad! And Happy Fathers day to my brother Jeffrey and brother-in-law Mike! Hope your day is the best!!
